Beware If You Are a Non-smoker
If you walked in residential neighborhoods outside the tourist center, you’d still see smoking, but nowhere near the “wall of smoke” effect you get in the heart of Amsterdam.
Yup, the “wall of smoke” seems to be everywhere in the heart of Amsterdam. Almost all the younger folks are vaping. The people in Amsterdam simply throw their cigarette buts everywhere. Although the city streets are very clean, the cigarette buts liter most bus stops and public spaces.
According to EarthDay.org, cigarette butts are the most abundant form of plastic waste in the world, with about 4.5 trillion individual butts polluting our city streets and global environment worldwide. Butts are made primarily of plastic, not paper or cotton, and can take up to 10 years to completely degrade.
