Every once in a while, I’ll have someone tell me that they’re not really happy with where their journey through life has taken them. They feel that they should have done better or accomplished more. When I hear this, I ask these people to reflect for a moment on where their life journey started. This usually brings a smile to their face. Then I ask them to take a look at how far they’ve come since then. This may take a few moments, but I eventually hear them say something like, “Life really has been good to me,” or “When I think, about it, I’ve done pretty well.” In my case, I started out picking berries on the family farm and when I wasn’t picking berries I was either mowing cemeteries or digging graves. Although I look back on those times fondly, a lot of wonderful things for which I am very grateful have happened since then. So, the next time you find yourself feeling unhappy about where you are in life, take a look at where you started. Doing so will completely change your perspective.
