Barron is an American citizen — his mother’s citizenship status at the time doesn’t change that.
When Barron Trump was born (March 20, 2006, in New York City), Melania Trump was not yet a U.S. citizen, though she was legally residing in the U.S. as a green card holder since 2001.
She became a naturalized U.S. citizen on July 28, 2006 — about four months after Barron’s birth.
But Doesn’t Barron’s Father Want to Change Birthright Citizenship?
Birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment grants U.S. citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil, regardless of their parents’ nationality or immigration status (with very narrow exceptions).
Additionally, Barron’s father, Donald Trump, was a U.S. citizen at the time, which would already confer citizenship status — even if Barron had been born abroad.
Petition to Deport Melania Trump
The petition comes as President Donald Trump ramps up his deportation schemes including with the Department of Justice beginning to prioritize stripping naturalized Americans of their citizenship when charged with crimes.
