For a long time now, I have been observing gardeners—people who plant fruits, vegetables, and flowers in their yard. These people tend to be very energetic and seem to love what they do. My wife Marcia is one such person. She always has a smile and she’s always planting something. Then when the flowers start blooming or the vegetables are ripe, you’re going to get a bouquet of flowers or a container full of vegetables for a parting gift as you’re walking out our door. In the case of my daughter Katie who’s a backyard chicken rancher, you’ll probably get a dozen eggs. There’s no tit for tat here, it’s just the pure joy of sharing natures generosity. When I shared my observation with Marcia about this generosity, she replied, “My garden is generous to me and it makes me want to, in turn, share with others so they can enjoy it too.”
