When you approach a task or situation with enthusiasm, you radiate energy, cheerfulness, excitement, and even joy. This means you’re going to enjoy what you’re doing, be successful at it, and probably learn a lot in the process. Without enthusiasm, you’ll merely be going through the motions. Whatever you’re doing will quickly become boring and you probably won’t learn much. A long time ago, I was about to be drafted into the U.S. Army. Spending two-three years in the Army is something I really didn’t want to do, but since I had no choice, I decided to pursue this opportunity with all the enthusiasm I could muster. Every challenge the Army put in front of me; I met it head-on with energy and a smile. Three years later, when I got out of the Army, I took a look around and it seemed like the world had somehow changed. Then I realized that the world hadn’t changed, the way I looked at it had. Because of all the challenging experiences I had enthusiastically overcome, hills that once looked too steep to climb now seemed flat. Tasks that once seemed impossible now seemed very doable. The lesson here is if you approach life with enthusiasm, you’ll be amazed how it changes the way you see the world.
