An Enthusiastic Greeting on Our Part Can Help Other People Have a Better Day – by Dr. Ross Reck

Good Morning!

As my wife Marcia and I were walking back to our car after shopping at Sprout’s Farmer’s Market, we were greeted by a woman with a very enthusiastic, “Good morning! How are you folks doing?” I responded in kind with: “Wonderful! And how are you doing?” She came back with, “Fantastic! I hope the two of you have an absolutely terrific rest of your day!” I then said, “You have a terrific day as well!” After I got into the car, Marcia said to me, “Tell me, how are you feeling right now?” I said, “Pretty upbeat, actually.” “She then said, “You owe some of that good feeling to that person who just greeted us.” I thought for a moment and said, “You’re right. I’m having a better day because someone greeted me with a little enthusiasm.” The lesson here is that we can all help other people have a better day. All we have to do is add a little enthusiasm to the way we greet them. The bonus for doing this is that it will help us have a better day as well.
