Scolding - Military Training

Have you ever been scolded and told “You just better straighten yourself out.”  Well, I caught myself saying that to myself yesterday. Lately I have been walking out our gravel driveway to get in the car and I seem to be bending over watching my feet. When I see there are no fallen limbs silently, I shout out, “Attention! Straighten up there private.”  I come to attention, try to stick out my chest and straighten my back and, yes, I will admit I sure can’t straighten up the way I did in 1953 when I was discharged from the Army. But I do feel much better when I throw back my shoulders and try to stand tall. Breathing is easier that way too and I just feel better about myself generally.

Next I try to suck in some of that good North Carolina air and straighten up my mind some. There are a lot of negative thoughts floating around in America and I just try to keep remembering how blessed we are.
