For the past ten or so years, I have been watching a television program that features three successful restaurants during each show. As part of each segment, the owner or chef is interviewed about the secret to his or her establishment’s success. Without exception, these people give the same two reasons. First, they love their customers or “guests” and want them to feel like family. For example, they are always out in the restaurant mingling with their guests and listening to their stories. Second, they see to it that the food served to their guests is cooked with love—they sample each dish as it’s cooking to make sure their guests get what they expect. As a result, their guests come back again and again and bring others. The same holds true with most other tasks and activities that we perform as we journey through life. If we don’t perform them with love, no one will notice or care, and our life will become dull and mundane. On the other hand, if we perform these same activities with love, everything we touch becomes a masterpiece and our life becomes joyful and fulfilling.
