The Grand Canyon Synod 2010 Conference
The Grand Canyon Synod Conference, held in Tucson, is now concluded for this year. The representatives from University Lutheran Church were Jill Rode, Pastor Gary McCluskey, and Terry Pochert. It was a great time to share, connect with neighboring congregations and especially participate in special Friday evening banquets. Various banquets were held throughout the Tucson area, but especially important for our campus community and Church was the Lutheran Campus Ministry dinner hosted by the three campus ministries in Arizona. We all gathered at the Campus Christian Center near the heart of the University of Arizona, feasted on food and fellowship provided by the local campus ministry, shared stories about the impact of this mission, chatted about some of the future challenges, and witnessed with other conference attendees. Special recognition was given to Pastor Gary for his thirty-years of service in the ministry. Our own Pastor Carl Mangold was recognized for thirty-five years of service. What amazing people we have here at University Lutheran Church. Several resolutions were presented to the congregation including a resolution to amend a previous social statement on abortion. This resolution failed. Another to encourage and be open to all immigrants within our midst. This resolution passed. Check out the Grand Canyon Synod’s website for full details. Look for more details regarding YOUR mission and outreach in the coming weeks. Your talents, your hands and your financial stewardship are changing the world and our community. |
