Drop 'n' Flop Bean Bag Pet Bed and Pet Mats

Two well-used types of dog beds in our house are the Drop 'n' Flop™ Bean Bag Pet Bed and the same company's Pet Mats (see Test Report, next page).

In fact, one of their giant-size, nylon Bean Bag Pet Beds has a prominent location in our family (dogs') room. Its compacted state testifies to the considerable comfort that it has given our dogs. While this bed could use some of Drop 'n' Flop's refill beads, it's still a popular bed when our dogs seek a warm and comfy place to rest or sleep.

The Bean Bag Pet Bed is composed of two parts -- an outer cover which is machine washable and dryer dryable, and an inner bag that contains polystyrene filler. This filler has to be hand-washed and hung to dry. The polysterene filler is flea-repellent, odor-free, and hypoallergenic, and molds to the dog's body shape for good support.

 

We've used the Drop 'n' Flop Pet Mats in our dogs' crates for a long time. The mats are made of cotton or nylon and are available in three sizes: small (18" x 26"), medium (22" x 36"), and large (27" x 46").

Samantha, our feisty Dachshund cross, has enjoyed her cotton Pet Mat for years. This durable, double-quilted mat is easily cleaned in the washer and dryer -- although we usually air dry our dog beds. Besides being useful in crates, these mats are also great on the floor, on furniture and on car seats. They work well in just about every situation, in fact.

We did experience one or two problems with a couple of the nylon Pet Mats. The nylon frayed and the seam separated at the end of the mat.

Stefan Wiesen, President of Drop 'n' Flop, believes that this fraying is an isolated incident, as he sells several thousand of the nylon mats every year and only around 10 are returned in a year. We haven't had a similar problem with our cotton Pet Mat, which has proven to be very durable.

For dogs who spend time outdoors, a waterproof fabric version of the Drop 'n' Flop Bean Bag is available.
