Catahoula Leopard Dog Family Rescued, Needs Home Good Dog! reader SueWalker of Montana has rescued a small family of Catahoula Leopard Dogs, and is looking for an appropriate home for them. Mom and Dad are under 3 years old, and the female puppy is about 7 months old. The dogs were refugees from the fires in Montana. The previous owner turned them loose from their pens, and then moved away as the fires approached. Mom and daughter have been kept in the house for the last 2 months, receiving a ton of attention. Mom is very needy, and would love to be the queen of a household. She is friendly with other dogs, though. The puppy is still very shy. Dad has been sad and depressed, but is also very sweet. He needs to relearn trust. He's been well cared-for, but living outside in a pen (with an open door to the meadow). With winter coming, these guys need to be rehomed soon. They also need to be spayed and neutered. Transportation out of state can be arranged. According to info at http://www.geocities.com/catahoularescue/info.html, "The Catahoula is highly intelligent and very energetic. They need a lot of mental and physical stimulation in order to be happy. Catahoulas generally do not fare well in an urban setting. "Catahoulas make excellent working dogs, excelling in herding, hunting, protection, and police work. They tend to be protective and territorial, guarding their home and family. For this reason, Catahoulas make excellent watchdogs. "As a general rule, Catahoulas are not well-suited to novice owners. Experience with Catahoulas or other large and/or assertive breeds is a plus for prospective Catahoula owners." These dogs need your help now! Call Sue at (406) 225-9460 or Jim at (406) 225-3839 if you know of the perfect home. -- Ross Becker |
